Luin jo aiemmin Courtney Milanin novellin Talk sweetly to me (NLA Digital LLC, 2014; ISBN 978-1-937248-22-2), mutta niin vain päädyin lukemaan sen uudestaan.
Historiallisen novellin päähenkilö on tummaihoinen nainen, Rose Sweetly, joka sattuu olemaan matemaattinen lahjakkuus ja tekee töitä tähtitieteen parissa laskien planeettojen ja muiden taivaankappaleiden ratoja. Stephen Shaughnessy puolestaan on tunnettu kolumnisti, joka ei matematiikasta tiedä juuri mitään.
Milan punoo tarinansa näppärästi yhteen, vahvana teemana tasa-arvo ja ihmisarvon kunnioittaminen. Makeahko välipala tämä tarina on, mutta mukana on myös painavampaa sisältöä.
