Erica Hayesin fantasiaromaani tuntui heti alusta alkaen jotenkin vastentahtoiselta luettavalta, ikään kuin kirjojen kierrätyshyllyn sisältö olisi jo liian monetta kertaa kierroksella: Scorched (HarperCollins, 2014; ISBN 978-0-0075-9461-0).
Kirjan päähenkilö on virunut vankilassa kidutettuna, mutta pääsee pakoon, ja tästä ilmeisesti alkaa tarina jossa sattuu ja tapahtuu koko ajan vallan hirveästi. Mutta kun päähenkilö ei tunnu uskottavalta, ja tarina ei vakuuta, kirjan lukeminen jäi muutamaan kymmeneen sivuun.
