Trudi Canavanin fantasiatrilogian toinen osa jatkaa siitä mihin ensimmäinen jäi, monenlaisen juonittelun ja arvoitusten keskelle: The novice (Orbit, 2004; ISBN 1-84149-314-7).
Kirjassa on paljon tyhjäkäyntiä, kuten oli edellisessäkin osassa, ja kirjoittajan helmasyntinä on paikoitellen se että hän selittelee asioita eikä käytä tarinankerrontaa tehokkaasti hyväkseen. Hypin yli monet pätkät jotka tuntuivat täytetekstiltä. Mutta romaanissa oli myös muutamassa kohdin aitoa kertomisen paloa, ja teksti tarrasi kiinni, joten epäilemättä jatkan trilogian päätösosalla jahka saan sen kirjastosta käsiini.
