Sven Hirn: Kameran edestä ja takaa - valokuvaus ja valokuvaajat Suomessa 1839-1870

Sven Hirn kartoitti suomalaisen valokuvauksen varhaisvaiheita ja sai aikaan melkomoisen teoksen: Kameran edestä ja takaa - valokuvaus ja valokuvaajat Suomessa 1839-1870 (Suomen valokuvataiteen museon säätiö, 1972; ISBN 951-9086-01-3).



On mahtavaa että tämä teos löytyy Helmet-järjestelmästä ja että sen saa näppärästi lainaan. Teos kertoo valokuvauksen alkuajoista, kun valokuvan ottamiseen meni niin kauan aikaa että potretissa piti kuvattavan liikkumattomuus taata pääntuella joka piti asennon paikoillaan. Tekniikka kehittyi, ja lopulta tuli mahdolliseksi myös kopioiden tekeminen kun negatiivin käyttö saatiin toimimaan.

Kirjassa kerrotaan sekä valokuvauksen tulosta Suomeen että niistä valokuvaajista jotka tätä työtä Suomessa tekivät. Perusteellinen tietoteos, jossa kerrotaan muun muassa siitä millaista studiorekvisiittaa valokuvaajat käyttivät. Ja luonnollisesti teoksessa on runsain mitoin näytteitä valokuvista, niistä jotka ovat säilyneet, melkein kuin ihmeen kaupalla.

Brandon Sanderson tarjoaa kaksi fantasiaa ja tieteiskirjallisuutta sekoittavaa pienoisromaania yksissä kansissa: Legion and The emperor's soul (Gollancz, 2013; ISBN 978-0-575-11620-7).



Kirja löytyi kirjaston palautettujen kirjojen hyllystä, ja hyvä että löytyi, siinä määrin erinomaisesti Sanderson tarinoistaan selviää.

Bernie ei pysty vastustamaan kiusausta saadessaan tietää arvokkaista esineistä tai rahakätköistä, ja pulmiahan tästä ennen pitkää seuraa. Poliisihahmot ovat melkolailla karikatyyrejä, mutta mikäs siinä, sillä Bernie osaa ratkoa lukkojen avaamisen lisäksi monenlaisia muitakin pulmia.

Sen piti olla helppo keikka. Le Monde diplomatique sarjakuvina 1 - sata sivua poliittista sarjakuvaa

Guillaume Barou et al. ovat toimittaneet tämän sarjakuvakirjan, jonka kirjastosta lainasin, enkä vieläkään ymmärrä mistä tässä kirjasessa oikeastaan on kyse: Le Monde diplomatique sarjakuvina 1 - sata sivua poliittista sarjakuvaa (Into, 2011; suom. Kirsi Kinnunen; ISBN 978-952-264-062-8).



Kirja on kohtalaisen isokokoinen, mutta sekään ei auta, sillä teoksen sivut on pakattu täyteen piirroksia, siinä määrin että sarjakuvien lukeminen tuntuu lähestulkoon mahdottomalta.

Olisiko eräs teoksen viesti se, että jos et ymmärrä tästä mitään, et ole niitä ihmisiä joille tämä kirja on suunnattu, sen verran tarkoituksellisen hankalalta tuntuu esitystapa ja esitysasu.

Miranda Neville: The duke of dark desires

Miranda Neville tarjoaa roppakaupalla salaliittoja, salaisuuksia ja salakähmäisyyttä historiallisessa viihderomaanissa, jossa yritetään korjata aikoinaan tehtyä vääryyttä, ja haudotaan kostoa: The duke of dark desires (Avon, 2015; ISBN 978-0-06-224334-8).



Teos on kirjasarjan neljäs romaani, ja tuntuu että kirjailija paikka paikoin on jo väsähtänyt tarinaansa, jota mitä ilmeisimmin kirjan aiemmissa osissa on kerrottu teoksen sivuhahmojen näkökulmista.

Yllätyksiä on leivottu tarinaan yllin kyllin, mutta onneksi kirjailija on paikka paikoin malttanut miettiä henkilöhahmojensa tarkoitusperiä pintaa vähän syvemmältäkin, joten ihan pelkkää sokerikuorrutusta romaani ei kuitenkaan ollut.

Romaani on helppolukuinen, ja vaikka teoksen aihepiiri ei sanottavammin kiinnostanut, jaksoin teoksen kuitenkin lukaista, mitä nyt hypin ylitse kohtia joissa hääsuunnittelusta kerrottiin liiankin yksityiskohtaisella pieteetillä.
