Suzanne Enoch: Rogue with a brogue

Suzanne Enoch tarjoaa skotlantilaista väriä historiallisessa viihderomaanissa, jossa klaanien välinen taistelu värittää ihmissuhteita: Rogue with a brogue (St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2014; ISBN 978-1-250-04161-6).

Teos on Scandalous Highlanders -romaanisarjan toinen osa.

A Rogue For Every Lady

London, 1817: Stuck in a Mayfair ballroom, thanks to his lovestruck brother, Highlander Arran MacLawry wants nothing but a bit of distraction from an arranged betrothal—and a clever auburn-haired lass in a vixen's mask promises just that ... until he discovers that she's the granddaughter of the Campbell, chief of clan MacLawry's longtime rival. Despite their families' grudging truce, falling for fiery Mary Campbell is a notion too outlandish even for this Highlander.

The Thrill Of The Forbidden

Raised on tales of savage MacLawrys, Mary is stunned to realize the impressively strapping man in the fox's mask is one of them. Surely the enemy shouldn't have such a broad chest, and such a seductive brogue? Not that her curiosity matters—any dalliance between them is strictly forbidden, and she's promised to another. But with the crackling spark between them ready to catch flame, love is worth every risk.

Suzanne Enoch: The devil wears kilts

Suzanne Enochin historiallisessa viihderomaanissa on skotti-eksotiikkaa mausteena, mutta muuten kirja ei sisällöltään poikkea lajityypistään: The devil wears kilts (St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2014; ISBN 978-1-250-04160-9).

Teos aloittaa Scandalous Highlanders -kirjasarjan johon kuuluu neljä romaania.

On a mission to rescue his runaway sister from the lure of flowery compliments and a useless lot of satin-clad scalawags disguised by their snooty titles, Ranulf MacLawry, Marquis of Glengask, has roared into British society like a storm across the Highlands. But he's about to find out that satin has its appeal, especially when it covers the curves of Miss Lady Charlotte Hanover - whose tongue is as sharp as her skin is soft.

Lady Charlotte Hanover has had her fill of hot-headed men, having lost her fiance in an utterly unnecessary duel. When did brawn ever triumph over brains? And yet there is something solid and appealing about the brash Highlander who's as dangerous in the ballroom as in battle. Sometimes bigger really is better.

Suzanne Enoch: Good earl hunting

Suzanne Enochin historiallinen viihdenovelli löytyy Helmetin e-kirjoista: Good earl hunting (Nancy Yost Literary Agency, 2012; ISBN 978-1-617-50860-8).

Kirjassa on kevyttä päähenkilöiden välistä sanailua riittämiin, mutta romaaniksi asti aineksia ei ole, eikä novellistakaan paljon mieleen jää.

Geoffrey Kerick, the Earl of Vashton, has had marriage-minded ladies flung at him for the past two years—since he inherited his brother's title and wealth—which is much less amusing than when they were simply flinging themselves into his bed for fun.

However, this particular invitation for a country house party in Devonshire he accepts with alacrity; because this time someone has caught his eye.

Theodora Meacham is resigned to being second; a second daughter, second in beauty, and a distant second in charm. Knowing that the irritating Lord Vashton is coming to Beldath Hall to woo her sister, Theo is, for once, quite happy to remain detached from the silliness. But Lord Vashton isn't preciselyt he boor she expects. Even more surprising, he seems determined to ignore her sister... in favor of her!

Can two people who are perfectly ill-suited find that two wrongs do make a right?

Suzanne Enoch: Hero in the highlands

Suzanne Enoch tarjoaa skotlantilaisiin maisemiin sijoitetun historiallisen rakkauskertomuksen, jossa englantilainen sotilas saa perinnön Skotlannista: Hero in the highlands (St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2016; ISBN 978-1-250-09541-1).

Enochin lukijoille on luonnollisesti ennen ensimmäisen rivin lukemistakaan selvää, mitä kirjassa tulee tapahtumaan, mutta kyllä teoksen asetelmissa jonkin verran oli omaperäisyyttäkin, eikä naispuolinen päähenkilö ollut mikään avuton sivustakatsoja vaan melkolailla tiukka vastinpari sotimisesta innostuneelle sankarille.

Scotland, 1812. He's ferocious and rugged to the bone, an English soldier more at home on the battlefield than in any society drawing room. And when Major Gabriel Forrester learns that he's inherited the massive Scottish Highlands title and estate of a distant relation, the last thing he wants to do is give up the intensity of the battlefield for the too-soft indulgences of noble life. But Gabriel Forrester does not shirk his responsibilities, and when he meets striking, raven-eyed lass Fiona Blackstock, his new circumstances abruptly become more intriguing.

Suzanne Enoch: Some like it Scot

Suzanne Enochin historiallisen viihderomaanin päähenkilö on veljesparvesta ainoa joka ei ole vielä naimisissa, eikä tämä vähäpuheinen jörrikkä oikeastaan haluaisikaan asettua aloilleen: Some like it Scot (St Martin's Paperbacks, 2015; ISBN 978-1-250-04163-0).

Tässä Skotlantiin sijoitetussa hömpähtävässä rakkaustarinassa on huumoria enemmän kuin lajityypissä yleensä, ja teksti soljuu varsin mallikkaasti kunhan tottuu skotlantilaista puhetapaa jäljittelevään dialogiin.

Munro MacLawry has always lived up to his nickname "Bear." Strong and brawny, he's known in his clan to be fiercely protective. Sadly for him, each of his siblings becomes "less highlander" as they get married, and Bear is left rowdy and alone with no one to protect. That is, until a routine hunt leads to the most alluring of creatures.

Suzanne Enoch: A matter of scandal jne.

A matter of scandal (HarperCollins, 2009; ISBN 978-0-06-174746-5)

Miss Emma Grenville has had her fill of pig-headed noblemen who believe women exist solely to satisfy men. And her arrogant new landlord, the Duke of Wycliffe, is the worst of the lot! The too-attractive cad wants to triple the rent on Emma's finishing school for young ladies to help get his newly inherited estate out of debt. Well, he clearly needs educating--about women. And Emma is just the one to enlighten him.

The sinfully handsome duke has never met a woman he couldn't seduce and outwit. And now that he's tricked Emma into a wager, he has the stubborn headmistress right where he wants her. But the confirmed bachelor underestimates the quick-witted and surprisingly sensual Miss Grenville. For she may be leading him to a place neither dreams they'll ever go--to the altar.

Reforming a rake (HarperCollins, 2006; ISBN 978-0-06-175207-0)

A governess must never be alone with a man (her reputation mustn't have even a hint of scandal). She never questions her employer's commands (even when he's tempting her to forsake respectability for desire?). She must never, ever fall in love with someone above her station (especially a rake--no matter how devastating his kisses may be).

If it weren't for that unfortunate incident at her last position, Alexandra Gallant wouldn't now be forced into the employ of Lucien Balfour. The sinfully attractive earl hired her to teach his young cousin, but his seductive whispers and toe-curling kisses suggest he has something far less respectable in mind ... And that will never happen. For although Lucien seems determined to teach her about pleasure, she has a few lessons to teach him about love!

Rogue with a brogue (St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2014; ISBN 978-1-250-04161-6)

A beginner's guide to rakes (St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2011; ISBN 978-0-312-53451-6)

All of London is abuzz with the return of the utterly alluring, recently widowed Diane Benchley. Will she remarry? And what will she do with her late husbands fortune? Society is shocked by her announcement - at the Grand Ball, of all places! - that she plans to open an exclusive gentlemans gaming club in the family mansion.

She breaks all the rules... Sophia White knows she will never marry into polite society. The illegitimate daughter of a nobleman, she works at the Tantalus Club, a discreet establishment for gentlemen-and her only suitor is a pastor who wants to save her soul.

Mad, bad and dangerous in plaid (St Martin's Paperbacks, 2015; ISBN 978-1-250-04162)

Brawny, rugged Lachlan is nothing like the aristocratic English gentlemen who pursued Winnie - with a passion - in London. Three months away was more than enough to show her a world infinitely more glamorous than untamed Scottish Highlands. - But now that she's decided to find a prospective husband, could Lachlan finally appreciate her charms?

Rogue-aiheisia viihderomaaneja

Luettuani joltisenkin määrän historiallisia viihderomaaneja huomasin, että tietyt sanat toistuvat teosten otsikoissa, erityisesti sanat rogue, rake ja scoundrel. Niinpä tein Helmetissä haun hakusanalla rogue, ja aikamoisen pitkä lista näitä romaaneja kirjastosta löytyi, ja pitihän niitä lainata luettavaksi.

Rogue on suomennettavissa sanoilla kelmi, konna, roisto, veijari, kulkuri, villi, veitikka, kontrolloimaton, filuri ja niin edelleen, eli kyseessä on romaanihahmo jossa on koomisiakin piirteitä, ja melkoisessa määrin huijarin vikaa.

Näissä historiallisissa romaaneissa termi viittaa kyseenalaista mainetta saaneeseen yläluokan edustajaan, sellaiseen joka vehkeilee ja juonittelee saadakseen asiat järjestettyä haluamallaan tavalla. Ja haluamista näissä romaaneissa on useimmissa yllinkyllin, kovin isoa päiväannosta tällaista kirjallisuutta ei kerta kaikkiaan jaksa nautiskella.

Suzanne Enoch: Rules of an engagement jne.

Rules of an engagement (ISBN 978-0-0620-1868-7).

For proper young ladies, good behavior has always been the rule. Captain Bradshaw Carroway loves the seafaring life though he'd rather be battling brigands than his current assignment of ferrying a boatload of spoiled aristocrats. One passenger, however, has caught his eye: a bewitching young minx who definitely distracts him from the rules of shipboard decorum. Some rules, of course, are meant to be broken. Miss Zephyr Ponsley has traveled the world, but she's completely innocent in the ways of love. She's never learned to dance or flirt. But scientific observation has taught her that the laws of attraction have no rules, and that no adventure, on land or sea, is more dangerous or delicious than passion!

Reforming a rake (HarperCollins, 2006; ISBN 978-0-06-175207-0)

A governess must never be alone with a man (her reputation mustn't have even a hint of scandal). She never questions her employer's commands (even when he's tempting her to forsake respectability for desire?). She must never, ever fall in love with someone above her station (especially a rake--no matter how devastating his kisses may be) . . .

If it weren't for that unfortunate incident at her last position, Alexandra Gallant wouldn't now be forced into the employ of Lucien Balfour. The sinfully attractive earl hired her to teach his young cousin, but his seductive whispers and toe-curling kisses suggest he has something far less respectable in mind . . . And that will never happen. For although Lucien seems determined to teach her about pleasure, she has a few lessons to teach him about love!

Theresa Weller understands the rules of decorum, and is appalled when Colonel Bartholomew James disrupts a perfectly civilized dinner. This rude, insensitive man is the complete opposite of everything a gentleman should be--but with one searing kiss, Tess can think of no one else. . . . Aggravated beyond bearing by a man who speaks his mind, Tess wishes there was a guide to men like Bartholomew. Surely, with such an assortment of handsome, polite suitors to choose from, Tess should not ache for him. . . . She invites him on carriage rides and dares him to dance, and almost makes him want to return to Society. Bartholomew knows Tess wants to be seen as a proper miss, but deep down, he knows she is precisely the sort to spark his desire . . . A most improper lady.

Meet me at midnight (HarperCollins, 2009; ISBN 978-0-06-174759-5)

Victoria Fontaine's mischievous nature and brilliant, biting wit have scandalized the ton . . . and earned her the nickname "Vixen." But her reputation pales before the infamous Lord Althorpe's, known as "Lord Sin." The years Sinclair Grafton spent on the Continent have done nothing to quell the rumors about his past. And when the stunning Vixen and the handsome rogue find themselves momentarily alone at an elegant gala, their passion gets the best of them.

Caught by Victoria's father in a shockingly sensual kiss, Sin and Vixen have no recourse except a wedding. At first the very liberal lady relishes the thought of an unfettered marriage to an indifferent, unrepentant scoundrel. But she suspects there is more to this enigmatic, remarkable man, that his rakish persona is merely a pose. And after one unforgettable night of ecstasy, Lady Vixen is determined to unmask the true Sin . . . to satisfy a passionate heart that craves far more than freedom.

Suzanne Enoch: The care and taming of a rogue ja Angel's devil

Suzanne Enoch tarjoilee historiallisia rakkausromaaneja, joissa on juonittelua kerrakseen, esimerkkinä teokset The care and taming of a rogue (HarperCollins, 2009; ISBN 978-0-0619-5925-7) ja Angel's devil (Nancy Yost Literary Agency, 2012; ISBN 9781617508592).

Romaanissa The care and taming of a rogue ulkomailta palannut kuolleeksi luultu tutkimusmatkailija joutuu paitsi selvittelemään maineensa kärsimiä kolauksia myös opettelemaan hienostoseurapiirien pelisääntöjä, apunaan näiden seurapiirien erikoisasiantuntija. Tarinassa on paljon mutkia matkassa, mutta mitenkään uskottavaksi kirjaa ei voi sanoa, juoni on lähinnä kulissi päähenkilöiden naimakauppojen pyörittämiselle.

After years away from London, Captain Bennett Wolfe is back--and alive, much to Society's surprise. Having been presumed dead, this rugged adventurer is now much sought after by every marriage-minded young woman...but Bennett only has eyes for the intriguing Lady Phillipa Eddison. Phillipa would rather read than flirt, but she does know a thing or two about proper courtship rituals. A gentleman does not kiss a lady senseless, and he certainly does not bring his pet monkey when he comes calling. Lady Phillipa's never been so scandalized...or tempted. She simply must teach Bennett some manners--before she succumbs to temptation as wild as the man who offers it.

Romaanin Angel's devil päähenkilö Angelique Graham on mennyt salaa kihloihin, vaikka vanhemmat vastustavat liittoa, joten hän päättää teeskennellä ihastumista toiseen mieheen joka ei missään nimessä voisi tulla kyseeseen aviopuolisoksi, jotta vanhemmat muuttaisivat mielensä, ja kuten arvata saattaa, monenlaista mutkaa on edessä ennen kuin ihmissuhdesoppa selviää.

Hoping to compel her parents into arranging her marriage to a desirable lord by pretending interest in someone less agreeable, Angelique Graham plots with local rake James Faring, only to find herself falling in love with him.
