Jim Butcher: Fool moon

Jim Butcher laittaa yksityisetsivä Harry Dresdenin selvittelemään yliluonnollisia tapahtumia Chigagossa, ja tästä kirjasta ei ihmissusia ja muita outouksia todellakaan puutu: Fool moon (ROC, 2009; ISBN 978-0-451-45812-4).



Teos on fantasiaromaanisarjan toinen osa. Ensimmäisestä osasta pidin, koska siinä ei hirveästi yliluonnollisilla elementeillä mässäilty, mutta tässä romaanissa mässäilyä on isossa määrin, jopa niin että olin jättää lukemisen kesken. Mutta jatkoin romaanin loppuun asti. En tiedä jatkaako tästä enää eteenpäin, mutta jonkinlainen hengähdystauko ainakin on paikallaan.

Jim Butcherin fantasiaromaanissa höyrykäyttöiset ilmalaivat käyvät taisteluja ja vallanpitäjät juonittelevat toistensa pään menoksi: The aeronaut's windlass (Orbit, 2015; ISBN 978-0-356-50365-3).



Parasta romaanissa oli kohtalaisen omaperäinen maailma, jossa oli karheaa kauneutta. Tarina sen sijaan oli tuttu lukemattomista fantasiaromaaneista, mutta toisaalta Butcher onnistui muutamaan kertaan yllättämään kohtalaisen näppärästi, ja voi hyvin olla että tätä kirjasarjaa tulee luettua eteenkin päin.

Jim Butcher aloittaa Dresden files -fantasiaromaanien sarjan teoksella, jossa Chigagossa toimiva velho saa poliisilta selvitettäväkseen kummallisen kaksoismurhan: Storm front (Roc, 2000; ISBN 978-0-451-45781-3).



Butcher sekoittaa fantasiakirjallisuuden elementtejä kovaotteisen jännärin kerrontaan, ja homma toimii jopa yllättävän hyvin, sillä taikuuden elementtejä ei viljellä liian paljon. Kerronnassa on tiukkaa huumoria, vaikka paikoitellen tuntui naseva sanailu liiankin itsetarkoitukselliselta tyylikeinolta.

Romaanisarjassa on ilmestynyt monenmonta teosta, ja tätä voisi lukea enemmänkin.
