Isaac Marionin romaani Warm bodies sekoitti romantiikkaa ja zombi-kauhua keskenään, eikä teos ollut hassumpi viihderomaani. Kirjalle on ilmestynyt jatkoakin, romaani joka kertoo aiemmista tapahtumista: The new hunger (Vintage Books, 2013; ISBN 978-0-09-958772-9).



Warm bodies -teoksen erityispiirre oli zombi-hahmojen näkökulmasta tapahtuva tarinankerronta. Sitä on tässäkin teoksessa, mutta pääosa juonenkuljetuksesta liittyy katastrofin keskellä eloon jäämisestään kamppailevien ihmisten keskinäisiin välienselvittelyihin. Zombit eivät välttämättä ole se pahin uhka.

Diana Wynne Jonesin fantasiaromaanisarja Chrestomancin maailmat alkaa teoksesta Noidan veli (WSOY, 2010; suom. Marikki Makkonen; ISBN 978-951-0-36068-2).



Olen lukenut fantasiakirjallisuutta harvakseltaan, ja joskus lukeminen tyssää jo alkumetreille, mutta niin ei käynyt tämän romaanin kanssa, vaikka paikka paikoin kertomisessa tuntui olevan tarkoituksellista koukeroisuutta ja saman kaltaisten asioiden tarpeetonta toistoa. Romaani kuitenkin veti mukaansa, ja paransi otettaan loppua lähestyttäessä. Melkoinen taidonnäyte lajityypissään, nuorille lukijoille suunnatussa fantasiakirjallisuudessa.

Chantin sisarukset Eric, lempinimeltään Kissa, ja hänen noitasisarensa Gwendolen ovat jääneet orvoiksi siipirataslaivan haaksirikossa. Ystävällisen rouva Sharpin hoteista he pääsevät asumaan Chrestomancin perheen loisteliaaseen linnaan. Taitavaa isosiskoaan kaikessa ihaileva Kissa tuntee pian itsensä mitättömäksi tapaukseksi, mutta hienostoperheen ynseisiin kakaroihin ja kaikenlaiseen koketeeraukseen kyllästynyt Gwendolen ryhtyy kostoksi keppostelemaan. Käytöstavat olisi kyllä syytä olla noidillakin hallussaan - sen Gwendolen oppii karvaasti pullikoidessaan isäntänsä määräyksiä vastaan. Kissa taasen, joka omasta mielestään ei hallitse taian taikaa, saa hämmästyksekseen kuulla, mikä tärkeä tehtävä onkaan varattu yhdeksän hengen kantajalle.

Diana Wynne Jonesin humoristisen henkevä fantasiaromaani on kertomus ajoilta, jolloin noituus oli vielä arvossaan Brittein saarilla. Teos avaa Jonesin pääteossarjan Chrestomancin maailmat. Sen osat ovat täysin itsenäisiä tarinoita, joita yhdistää Chrestomancitietäjän hahmo.

Ville Lukkarinen kertoo suomalaista maisemaa kuvanneiden taiteilijoiden kokemusta ja niitä paikkoja joita he ovat teoksiinsa luonnostelleet: Piirtäjän maisema - paikan kokeminen piirtämällä (Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura, 2015; ISBN 978-952-222-628-0).



Parasta kirjassa oli se että taiteilijoiden työtä katsottiin muutenkin kuin viimeisteltyjen maalausten näkökulmasta, tuomalla esille luonnoksia ja piirroksia joista käy ilmi taiteilijoiden erilaiset tavat suhtautua maisemaan, pyrkiä esittämään sen olennaiset piirteet.

Piirtäjän maisema pureutuu kysymykseen, miten tietty paikka koetaan sitä piirtämällä. Maiseman piirtäminen luonnossa on ympäristökokemus, josta piirustus on jälki ja todiste. Paikkakokemuksesta ponnistavassa taiteessa paikan nostalgisella muistolla on merkittävä sija.

Kirjassa esiteltävät Werner Holmberg (1830-1860), Alfred William Finch (1854-1930), Kalle Carlstedt (1891-1952), Helmi Kuusi (1913-2000) ja Carl Wargh (s. 1938) ovat taiteilijoita, jotka ovat asettuneet maiseman äärelle ja luonnostelleet ympärillään avautuvia näkymiä. Kirja esittelee kullekin taiteilijalle merkityksellisiä paikkoja, joita he ovat piirtäneet useaankin otteeseen.

Näiden suomalaisten taiteilijoiden ohella kirjassa tarkastellaan yleisemminkin maisemapiirustuksia, selvitetään piirustuspaikkojen luonnetta ja taiteilijoiden suhdetta niihin sekä eritellään niitä reunaehtoja, joiden rajoissa eri aikakausien taiteilijat ovat työskennelleet.
