Karen Hawkins kirjoittaa historiallisia viihderomaanisarjoja, joissa on monenmoista sattumusta, ja kaikki on luonnollisesti melkolailla ennalta-arvattavaa, ja kirjan lopussa ollaan onnellisia vaikka mitä tapahtuisi. Helppolukuista tekstiä, ja vaikka tarinat ovat höttöä, on niissä siellä täällä ehkä jotain oivalluksen oloista, jos hyvin sattuu.
