Adam Creedin romaanin kannessa lukee, että kirjan ostaja saa rahat takaisin, jos kirja ei ole yhtä mukaansatempaava kuin Ian Rankinin teokset. Ikävä kyllä tarjouksen aikaraja oli umpeutunut, ja toisaalta kirja oli peräisin kirjastosta: Suffer the children (Faber and Faber, 2009).
Kirjassa on iso määrä henkilöhahmoja ja tapahtumia riittää ylen määrin, niin että teoksen lukeminen oli melkoista kahlaamista ja taistelua puutumista vastaan. Creed kyllä osaa kirjoittaa, mutta onko hänellä sanottavaa, se jäi kysymysmerkiksi.

And as he digs for answers into the grime of the city there's also pressure from his boss and the newspapers who are gunning for him.
